Sunshine, cows and cakes

Our farm walk and cream tea was blessed with great weather on Sunday. Firstly we had a look at the calves that had been born in the last week. These were already tanking around at speed whist the cows were sensibly relaxing in the sunshine. After this we walked along to Waterhay Bridge and had a look at the Thames. Still a reasonable amount of water in it compared with some years, and lots of small fish. We then headed past the main summer calving herd and up to Leigh Chancel. A little quieter than I had hoped on the wildlife front, but lots of Speckled Wood Butterflies and a fox sneaking along the hedge keeping an eye on us in the next field. We then headed back to the garden for tea, homemade scones and jam and cakes. Don't worry if you missed this years walk, I am hoping to do two next year, the first one to coincide with the fritillaries in April which will consist of a slightly longer visit to our 2 local sites (one with no public access). The Rumming family have been farming cattle on the banks of the Thames at Waterhay near Cirencester, and at Lydiard near Swindon for over 60 years.  We provide the highest possible animal welfare which together with the grass fed diet produce superior beef.

Our beef is hung on the bone for 3-4 weeks to give the best flavour and texture, and then expertly butchered and packed in our own on farm butchery.  You can collect the beef fresh or frozen directly from the farms.
