A hide is a natural by-product of beef. Instead of sending selected hides overseas, Andy is working with one of Britain’s few remaining traditional tanneries to turn a small number into exceptional, environmentally conscious leather.

Slow pit-tanned British leather
A hide is a natural by-product of beef. In Britain, hides are often exported long distances to be processed where labour is cheaper and environmental standards can be lower.
Andy is taking a different route with a small number of hides from the farm’s own cattle. These are processed in Britain by one of the country’s few remaining traditional tanneries, using slow pit tanning in tree bark over several months. The result is heavy, high-quality leather made with care and craft.

Handcrafted on the farm
The best parts of each hide are bridle finished, then brought back to the farm where Andy handcrafts them into belts. The buckles are solid brass and handmade at a foundry in Walsall, bringing together a chain of skilled British craftspeople.
In Andy’s words, you can not only eat the meadow — you can wear it too.
